Insights: This Favre Leuba Medical Valjoux 23 Chronograph example is a 1972 watch with a gold-plated case and Valjoux 23 movement, supplied in the version also used by Jaeger LeCoultre. Between 1969 and 1974, in fact, the two companies belonged to the same group. The case, which won an award for design during a competition in Montreal, was originally water-resistant to 10 atmospheres, although contact with water is not recommended today.
As for history, in 1927 Jaeger and LeCoultre were consolidated under a holding company called SAPIC, based in Lausanne. SAPIC acquired the SH company in 1934, a distributor of Jaeger LeCoultre since 1931, and renamed Jaeger-LeCoultre in 1938. In the same year, SAPIC acquired a significant stake in Vacheron & Constantin and Audemars Piguet, extensively using JLC calibres in their watches. In 1964, Vacheron & Constantin exited the group.

In 1969, Georges Favre bought Jaeger LeCoultre and SAPIC, renaming it the SAPHIR Group, based in Zug. From then on, Jaeger LeCoultre and Favre Leuba became sister companies, both under the leadership of Georges Favre, until they were sold in 1974.
